Bernard Grandmaitre – June 24, 1933 – October 28, 2025

Bernard Grandmaitre died on October 28, 2025 at the age of 92.
Elected in a by-election in Ottawa East on December 13, 1984, and appointed Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister responsible for Francophone Affairs in the first Peterson government in 1985, he played a major role in the 1986 passage of the province’s first French language service act. After the 1987 election he was named Minister of Revenue while still responsible for Francophone Affairs.
He remained a member of the Ontario Legislature until his retirement in 1999.
