Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Peterson government
On June 16, caucus members, supporters, and staff of the Peterson Government gathered in downtown Toronto to mark the 40th anniversary of its historic election victory. Hosted by co-chairs Charles Beer and Deb Matthews, the event brought together hundreds of guests to honour a government that helped modernize Ontario and set a new standard for progressive leadership.
The afternoon featured remarks from Ontario Liberal Party Leader Bonnie Crombie, a video tribute from former New Brunswick Premier Frank McKenna, and reflections from former MPP and cabinet minister Sean Conway. Former Premier David Peterson also joined journalist Steve Paikin, host of The Agenda on TVO, for a wide-ranging fireside chat about the history, impact, and lessons of his time in office.
There was a buzz in the air as old friends reconnected and reminisced. The event program recognized long-serving MPPs and cabinet ministers as well as other behind-the-scenes contributors. A special moment of remembrance paid tribute to those no longer with us. It was a night of celebration, not just of policy achievements, but of the enduring relationships that continue to shape public life in Ontario today.
